Information on play areas and facilities for children.
We currently manage 37 playgrounds, catering for age groups ranging from four years to twelve years, with teenage equipment on several sites. The playgrounds strike a balance between providing challenging and stimulating play and learning and meeting current safety requirements.
The council recognises the needs of local children to have a safe place to play, how children's play opportunities can be improved, with particular emphasis on those areas of the borough with greatest need.
A
was approved by the Council in 2015 as both a reference and working document.By encompassing current and proposed provision of play areas, which are both operated by and independently of the Borough Council; this plan has been able to identify aims and objectives, which are intended to encourage greater use of the amenities by a wide range of the community.
Continuing to work in partnership with the community, will ultimately prove crucial to the success of play facilities and will form a key part in the long term development.
Each of the council play areas have been assessed (by an independent play company) and an
was created, this outlines which play areas the council will look to improve in priority order. Some play areas in the borough are not managed by the council. If the play area you are looking for is not in listed, it is privately managed either by Better leisure facilities, the various town and parish councils, or a housing association. Please contact the relevant organisation.
Our play areas are inspected weekly, with additional checks done during the week. All of our officers who work on the play areas are trained by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and undertake retraining every three years.
